- Korcula has a similar history with other parts of the Dalmatian archipelago. The first known inhabitants of Korcula were Illyrian tribes. They lived from farming and fishing.
- Upon the arrival of Ancient Greeks, Korcula became a Greek colony.
- In the town museum you can see relic from the past.
- Several centuries later, in 7th century AD Croats came to the Adriatic coast.
- Venetians arrived in Korcula in the 10th century and they rule Korcula on and off to the 14th century.
- After the fall of Venetian state in 1797, Korcula became part of the Austrian empire, till 1918.
- Korcula became part of the kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenians under Versailles Agreement.
- Korcula was a part of the turbulent history of Yugoslavia, until 1991wenh Croatia become an independent state.
